Reconciliation in Australia is about different people coming together, to acknowledge Australia’s past treatment of First Nations people, to examine how we can work together and achieve a united future.

Reconciliation Australia tell us that reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples, for the benefit of all Australians.

Post-colonial Australian history involves uncomfortable truths about the treatment of First Nations people. A history that involves land dispossession, violence and racism. Over the last 50 years, as a country, there have been important steps taken towards Reconciliation.

Reconciliation work continues and requires ongoing commitment to building relationships, acknowledging our shared history and walking together as we move to a more reconciled Australia.
