Melton Town Centre Mural renewal

The Melton Town Centre Amphitheatre is a local meeting place and venue for community events including the recent popular Night Markets.

The mural painted in 2018 by Phibs “ Birds of a Feather” is due for renewal. Prior to the new artwork the site will receive a much-needed upgrade including garden works and the installation of extra lighting.

The new mural will be unveiled after its completion in August 2025 and will represent the Melton Community and enhance this central location and meeting place.

Public Art projects such as murals are a proven deterrent to vandalism and tagging.

The New Mural

Murals (street art) are temporary and generally have a life span of 5 – 10 years.

As part of the Melton Town Centre Revitalisation Project, a new mural has been funded by the Victorian Government Suburban Revitalisation to support the revitalisation of Melton Town Centre.

The design has been finalised and approved by the Arts and Culture team along with Internal Public Art Working Group at Council.

Members of the public will be able to watch the mural come to life as the artist paints it during July and August 2025.

The current mural

Birds of a Feather painted by Phibs' (Tim de Haan) in his signature style and theme, uses stylised imagery to depict two species of birds often seen around Melton – the Red-Rumped Parrot and the Diamond Firetail. Phibs has mixed images of these two birds into a bright pattern that complements the nearby IGA sign and the public sculptures installed in Melton Town Centre. The artist is aware of the renewal process.
