Council response

Local streets are too narrow, and there are concerns that detours will increase traffic and make it harder for residents to access their homes.

Council understands these concerns. However, there are very limited alternative routes other than a broader detour.

The temporary lane closure is needed to safely complete works, including deep excavation, new footpaths and kerbing, line marking, and construction work within the road.

To help manage impacts, heavy vehicles will use a designated detour that avoids local streets. Parking will also be removed on one side of detour roads to keep traffic moving.

Request for no stopping/parking controls to ensure roads remain passable and residents can access their properties.

‘No parking’ zones will be introduced on one side of roads along the detour route to help traffic flow more smoothly.

Parking will still be available on the other side of the road where possible.

Request to add another detour option (via Mushu Street) to spread traffic and reduce congestion on Normanby Boulevard.

Council will continue to promote one main detour route.

It is expected that some drivers will choose alternative local streets as they travel, which may naturally spread traffic across the area.
