Background

Melton City Council is revitalising Springlake Village Park to provide a variety of play experiences for a broad range of ages and abilities.

What We're Doing

We’re upgrading Springlake Village Park to improve the play space, upgrade and relocate the basketball facilities, add a new sheltered area, along with additional tree planting and landscaping to enhance the overall environment.

The playground will be closed from January 2027 until July 2027, while works are being undertaken.

Community Engagement Summary

We asked community to provide feedback on the concept plan for Springlake Village Park

  • Most people use the reserve for the playground and informal sports.
  • There was strong support for the proposed jump mats, along with interest in cubby spaces and a sheltered picnic area.
  • Many felt the design could better cater to older children and teenagers.
  • There is a desire for bollards around the reserve to help prevent cars from parking on the grass.

Updates on existing facilities

We also heard some concerns about the current tennis and basketball areas. Here’s what’s planned:

  • Tennis court: This will remain and will not be affected by the upgrade.
  • Basketball court: The existing court will be removed as it is in poor condition and no longer fit for use. A new half-court (half key) will be built next to the play space instead.

The area where the current basketball court sits will be restored and grassed to improve the overall look and usability of the reserve.

We’d like to thank everyone who took the time to share their thoughts.

How your feedback shaped the design

Your feedback has helped us better understand what you would like to see in the reserve upgrade.

Based on what we heard, the concept has been updated to include:

  • More challenging play options for older children and teenagers, including a larger rope climbing dome
  • Bigger cubby spaces with taller slides and climbing features for older kids
  • Fun goals in the grassed area for casual soccer practice
  • More natural play elements, such as rocks and logs, to encourage nature‑based play

We’ve also shared the request for bollards around the reserve with Council’s Operations team for consideration.
