Project Background

Melton City Council has received a request from a developer to construct the Saric Street and Taylors Road intersection.

To allow for the works, community members were consulted on traffic management arrangements, including the closure of Krateron Street at Taylors Road and a temporary no right turn into and out of Chateau Promenade.

While these traffic management changes were initially proposed to take in place between Monday 23 February until October 2026 - they have now been rescheduled to commence in April 2026.

Once construction of the new intersection is complete, the right turn into or out of Chateau Promenade will be restored.

Following construction, Krateron Street will remain permanently closed to traffic at Taylors Road, however residents will be able access Taylors Road via the new Saric Street intersection.

For a summary of what we asked, what we heard from residents, and the next steps from the consultation process. Please click on the headings below to find out more:

  • Between 15 January and 2 February 2026, we consulted with the local community on the traffic management arrangements for the intersection works. Feedback was collected via an online survey which was promoted via a letter distributed to residents and through social media.
  • More than 500 people viewed the consultation project page.
  • We received 19 submissions as part of the consultation process.

The table below outlines a summary of the feedback we heard, and Council's response to participants:

Council response

There are too many road projects in our area.

As one of Australia’s fastest growing council areas, there is a need to upgrade our road network to meet the increasing demands of our community.

There are a number of road projects occurring in your local area, including Council projects, developer and Victorian Government projects.

Many of these projects are required works as part of the Plumpton and Kororoit Creek Precinct Structure Plans, approved by the Victoria Planning Authority, and as such these projects must be delivered.

Council manages the local road network and one of our roles is to assess traffic management plans, assess the impact of proposed traffic management arrangements and approve proposals that will cause the least possible disruption to the road network.

Council works with those delivering these road projects to find ways to reduce disruptions and to see if projects can be sequenced around other disruptions, however for a variety of reasons this isn’t always possible.

We are committed to ensuring the community is informed about any disruptions so they can plan ahead, please visit our webpage Road works and closures Melton City Council

The detour is not viable as there is already significant amount of traffic on Hume Drive and City Vista Court.

The detour route via Hume Drive and City Vista Court is the shortest way to access Taylors Road.

We assessed a number of alternatives, however this was determined to be the best option.

In addition to using City Vista Court to access Taylors Road, there are other options such as using Hume Drive and Gourlay Road.

Council will monitor the traffic conditions during the detour and continue to make changes if necessary.

Can you change the light sequencing at City Vista Court and Taylors Road?

Council will ask the Department of Transport and Planning to review the signal sequencing to optimise traffic flow out of City Vista Court. The Department is the responsible authority and will determine the appropriate signal operation.

The time to deliver this project is too long, can you shorten the duration?

Council has worked closely with the developer to optimise construction staging and reduce the overall construction timeframe while meeting safety requirements.

These are complex works and include excavation, service relocation and installation, construction of drainage, footpaths and other assets and asphalting.

Why do we have to permanently close Krateron Street?

Krateron Street is not designed to cater for higher volumes of traffic.

The long-term plan, as outlined in the Plumpton and Kororoit Creek Precinct Structure Plans has always been for residents to access Taylors Road via Saric Street, which is wider and connects directly into Hume Drive.

This plan is outlined in the PSP and Council and developers are obligated to follow this.

The ultimate plan for the Saric Street and Taylors Road intersection is for traffic lights to be installed for safety and to reduce congestion.

Why can’t you fix Taylors Road?

The Taylors Road corridor is a vital east-west link within the City of Melton. There are a number of projects either underway, planned or completed as part of the Taylors Road Corridor Upgrade Plan.

An overview is provided below. For more information visit: Taylors Road Corridor Upgrade Plan Melton City Council

  • Plumpton Road and Taylors Road Intersection. This project is being delivered by Council and will transform the existing T-intersection into a four-way intersection with traffic lights and is due for completion in mid-2026.
  • Duplication of Taylors Road, between City Vista Court and Westwood Drive and new traffic lights at Caroline Springs Boulevard and Westwood Drive. This project is being delivered by Council and is scheduled to start in the second half of 2026 and is expected to be complete by the end of 2028.
  • Sinclairs Road and Taylors Road Intersection. Council will transform the existing roundabout into a four-way intersection, with traffic lights. This project is scheduled to start in the second half of 2026 and is expected to be complete in 2027.
  • City Vista and Taylors Road. This project included the installation of traffic lights at the intersection of City Vista Court and Taylors Road which was completed late last year.
  • In addition, there are other projects to urbanise other sections of Taylors Road that will be completed over time.

The intersection works have been rescheduled to April 2026, and the permanent closure of Krateron Street will also be delayed until this time.

This change is necessary due to the extended eastbound closure of Hume Drive at Saric Street, which would affect the traffic management arrangements. We will update the community once a confirmed start date is available. This delay shifts the timeline for the project, with works expected to be completed by November 2026.

There will be no changes to the proposed traffic management, as it remains the safest method for constructing the new intersection behind barriers while minimising impacts on Taylors Road.

The detour route for the closure of Krateron Street will be via Saric Street, Hume Drive and City Vista Court.

For those wanting to turn right out of Chateau Promenade into Taylors Road you will need to turn left on Taylors Road and make a U-turn at the Sinclairs Road roundabout.

For those wanting to turn right into Chateau Promenade from Taylors Road you will need to turn right at the Sinclairs Road roundabout and then turn left at Merinda Avenue to reach Chateau Promenade.

Please refer to the Traffic Management and Detour section for a map.

We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding while these important improvements to the local road network are delivered.

Why are these changes required?

Krateron Street is not designed to cater for higher volumes of traffic, and the long-term plan has always been for residents to access Taylors Road via Saric Street, which is wider and connects directly into Hume Drive.

The closure of Krateron Street will enable the construction of the new intersection to safely occur behind barriers and prevent serious road incidents impacting Taylors Road.

The temporary no right turn into and out of Chateau Promenade will ensure safety for road users as barriers, works and equipment will obscure the vision of oncoming traffic.

Traffic Management and Detours

Between April and November the detour route for the closure of Krateron Street will be via Saric Street, Hume Drive and City Vista Court.
