Project Background

Melton City Council is a naming authority pursuant to the Geographic Place Names Act 1998. Council’s authority to name places comes from the section 10 of the Local Government Act 2020, schedule 10 part 5 of the Local Government Act 1989 and section 11 of the Road Management Act 2004.

As a naming authority, Council may initiate or receive requests from the community and other stakeholders to name publicly owned features, roads and localities.

Road naming plays a critical role in safety, identity and good planning of an area. Council must ensure that names align with the Naming rules for places in Victoria - Statutory requirements for naming roads, features and localities – 2022 (Naming Rules for places in Victoria).

The Proposal

Council has received a request to rename Monaghans Lane in Deanside. The proposal seeks to align road naming with the endorsed plans for the Taylors Rise Estate in Deanside, which creates loop roads.

A plan of the proposed new names is below. The new names are proposed to be:

Stage 6 - Fernhill Circuit

Stage 7 - Pentland Circuit

Stage 10 - Carrigan Circuit

Stage 11 and 16 - Ardwick Road

You are now invited to vote for or against the proposal. You may also choose to make a submission on the proposal.

Council is seeking to finalise the new names, as soon as practicable and before the area is further developed, to minimise administrative burden such as change of address and signage.
