Project Background

The roundabout at Station Road and Brooklyn Road is currently one of busiest intersections in South Melton. There are traffic delays at the roundabout and there are safety concerns for pedestrians and cyclists.

The roundabout will be upgraded to a signalised intersection to ease the congestion at the roundabout, especially when the signals at the level crossing are down. The upgrade will improve the flow of traffic along Brooklyn Road during closure of the level crossing.

The project will include:

  • An expansion and realignment of the road
  • Underground services relocations (electricity, water, gas, and communications)
  • New Traffic signals
  • New Public lighting
  • Landscaping

The project is valued at $3.5M and construction is expected to begin in the first half of 2023 and be completed by early 2024.

The majority of the work will occur during work hours, however some night works will occur to avoid having to close road is multiple directions. A curfew will be imposed on the noisiest machinery to avoid disruptions to sleep.

Lane closures will be communicated ahead of time through electronic sign boards to help you plan ahead.

We will work with Public Transport Victoria (PTV) to minimise disruptions to bus services. PTV will let passengers know of any changes to service.

Access to the shopping centre and the fuel station will always be maintained.
