Project Background
Council is undertaking a new Thematic Environmental History (TEH) project to recognise and document the stories, places and experiences that shaped the City of Melton after the Second World War.
The project will explore the Satellite City era, industrial growth, cultural diversity and mid-century rapid suburban expansion.
This project will provide an historical framework that reflects the City of Melton’s 20th century identity to support identification and protection of significant sites that represent this era of history.
What We're Doing
We want to hear from individuals, community groups and stakeholders to help capture the stories, memories and experiences that shaped the City of Melton post-World War II (1945 through to the 1980s).
We’d love to hear from you if you:
- lived, worked, went to school or spent time in the City of Melton during this period
- have memories, photographs or stories about places that were important to you, your family or the wider community
- can share experiences about daily life in the City of Melton, and how the community changed and grew over time
- remember local events, industries, sporting clubs, community groups or cultural traditions that helped shape the City of Melton’s identity.
The feedback we gather from the community will help guide our research and shape the draft Post-war Thematic Environmental History.
Later in the year, we’ll share the draft and invite the community to take part in a second round of consultation. This will be an opportunity to see how your input has influenced the work and to provide further feedback.
