Project Background

Melton City Council is building a new purpose-designed facility in Cobblebank that’s being shaped with our community in mind. This space is designed to grow and evolve alongside the needs of local community, supporting the delivery of essential services and offering flexible areas for community groups, organisations, and commercial providers.

Sustainability is a key focus, with the building aiming for a Green Star rating. It will feature accessible and adaptable spaces that respond to the changing priorities of service providers and the communities they support currently and into the future.

As part of this exciting development, we’re inviting you to help us choose a name for the new facility.

Naming is important as it helps people identify and connect with places, supports emergency services, and ensures smooth delivery of goods and services across Victoria. Council must follow the official Naming Rules for places in Victoria, for more information please visit our Place Names Hub.

We’re asking the community to vote on which Naming Theme should guide the naming of the new building, and to share your own name suggestions for consideration.

In Phase 1, you voted on the Naming Theme you'd like to see for the new Building. The highest voted naming theme was Linking the name to place, receiving over 57% of the vote.

We also received 107 naming suggestions, which Council Officers have reviewed against the Naming Rules.

Officers recommended five names to be shortlisted for further community consultation. On 23 February 2026, those five names and one additional name, were endorsed by Council for consultation. The six shortlisted names are:

a. The Basalt Centre

b. Cobblebank Place

c. Cobblebank Community Hub

d. Cobblebank Connect

e. Cobblebank Community Support Centre

f. Cobblebank Community Service Centre

We are now inviting the community to vote on their preferred name from the shortlist.

Community members provided a range of name suggestions for Cobblebank's Future Community Services Building. Following shortlisting by Council, you can now vote on your preferred option by completing the form below:
