The Gambling Harm Prevention and Reduction Policy, adopted by Council on 11 November 2019, is a key commitment of the Council and Wellbeing Plan 2017-2021 and will strategically guide Council's assessment of future electronic gaming machine applications and broader matters relating to gambling harm prevention.
It focuses on mitigating harms, through the location, design and hours of operation of gambling establishments and the accessibility of gambling products in the City of Melton. It builds upon Council's previous Responsible Gambling Policy (2014) (now rescinded) and the Electronic Gaming Machine Planning Policy Reference Document (2017).
The Policy was informed by the Melton Planning Scheme Amendment C182 process and is underpinned by contemporary research into gambling harms funded by the Responsible Gambling Foundation in Victoria.
