Project Background:

Council is committed to building new children’s and community centres in response to the demand for services in rapidly growing communities across the City of Melton. These facilities include kindergarten and maternal and child health services as well as community meeting spaces.

Council is seeking to engage with local children and families to ensure the design of future children’s and community centres are fit for purpose and meet the needs of the community.

Have your say

Thank you to everyone who completed our survey and provided feedback.

It is clear from the responses, that Children’s and Community Centres are greatly valued and much needed assets within the community. Common themes in regard to design preferences included:

  • Large, open spaces with plenty of natural light
  • Outdoor play areas for children
  • Flexible spaces that can be used for a variety of purposes and user groups
  • Access to family/parent/breastfeeding rooms
  • Access to kindergarten, maternal and child health and other services in one facility
  • Adequate parking

Our consultation with local children showed they are interested in a wide variety of play activities and therefore outdoor play design should be inclusive of spaces and equipment which are flexible and support both group and individual play, as well as quiet/passive and active play.

The above feedback will be considered when planning future facilities and Council looks foward to continuing to deliver welcoming and inclusive Children's and Community Centres.
