Background

Melton City Council is revitalising Auburn Drive Reserve to provide a variety of play experiences for a broad range of ages and abilities.

What We're Doing

We're upgrading Auburn Drive Reserve to meet the needs of our growing community.

Improvements will include an expanded play space with new features like a flying fox, basketball court, and bike and scoot track, along with additional tree planting and landscaping to enhance the overall environment.

The playground will be closed January 2027 until July 2027, while works are being undertaken.

Community Engagement Summary

We asked community to provide feedback on the concept plans for Auburn Drive Reserve.

What we heard from the community

  • The reserve is mainly used for the playground and for social gatherings.
  • There was strong support for the proposed flying fox and bounce mats, followed by interest in the basketball court.
  • Overall, the concept design was well received, with 58.33% of people rating it 3 out of 5 and 41.67% of people rating it 4 out of 5.

Other ideas we heard

In additional comments, the community also shared interest in:

  • Fencing the play space to better support children with higher needs
  • Adding a BBQ area for family and social use
  • Providing a public toilet for convenience

Thank you to everyone who shared feedback on the reserve design, it has helped us better understand what’s important to you.

We received several comments about fencing and passed these on to the design team. Because there are multiple paths running through the reserve, adding a fence around the play space would make it difficult for people to move through the area easily. For this reason, fencing can’t be included in this design. However, Council will look at options for a fenced play space at other nearby locations in the future.

A public toilet is not part of this project; public toilets are not provided in parks that are classified as local parks.

We also heard interest in having a BBQ in this reserve. While this hasn’t been included, Kea Street Reserve just a short 150‑metre walk away already has BBQ facilities available.

As part of this upgrade, a new path will connect across the powerline easement, making it easier for people in the eastern area to access Kea Street Reserve and its BBQ facilities.
