Categories:In celebration of the revitalisation of our Melton Town Centre, we gave the community a chance to win over $1400 worth of prizes in our community art competition!
To enter, people simply created an artwork that speaks to the theme of ‘My Melton, My Community’. Inspiration for the theme might include depicting what the community of Melton means to you, your favourite places in the Melton Town Centre, the people that make up the Melton community, the sky is the limit!
Artwork could be any 2D format including a painting, drawing, watercolour, collage, photography, etc.
Prizes were awarded in the form of a voucher to a local business in the following categories:
Winners were announced at the City of Melton Lifelong Learning Festival launch event in September 2022. Each winning artwork had their pieces displayed in High Street shop front windows.
Registration and entries closed: Friday 19 August 2022.
Entrants of all different ages, abilities and backgrounds are encouraged to enter this competition, however, entrants must be a resident of the City of Melton.

Melton Central Community Centre will be hosting fortnightly open studio sessions on Mondays between 2pm and 6pm for entrants to work on their pieces using Council supplies, for free.
On Monday July 18 and Monday August 1, local artist Stephanie Bell will facilitate free workshops where you can explore basic art techniques and idea development for your submission.
Yes, all entrants must read and accept terms and conditions to be eligible
There is no fee to enter the competition and any non-professional artist or photographer living, working, studying or volunteering in Melton City Council can enter. Please see competition terms and conditions for Council’s definition of non-professional artist or photographer.
You can title it if you like – you don’t have to. You must include a brief description of the works and why it reflects Melton’s places, people and community in no greater than 50 words.
A panel of judges made up of local artists and/or community members will be appointed to shortlist entrants and determine winners for each category. Works submitted will be judged anonymously.
The theme of this competition is ‘My Melton, My Community’. Entrants are encouraged to put their unique spin on this theme; What does the community of Melton mean to you? What are your favourite places in the town centre? Who are the people that make Melton what it is? How do I interact with Melton and its community? How do you connect with Melton’s history and heritage?
Artworks that are uniquely identifiable and relate to Melton’s town centre and immediate surrounding areas; Hannah Watts Park, Melton Botanic Gardens, local businesses in the town centre, local residents and buildings and community spaces such as the historical courthouse, the amphitheatre, Civic Centre and Melton Library and Learning Centre.
Use of creativity, an eye-catching piece.
A technically good image (light, focus, composition, etc.) if photography is chosen medium.
One entry per person only.
In each category there will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners. As well as an overall prize for the artwork which best reflects Melton town and community. The prize will be a voucher to a local Melton business of their choice.
All prize winners will be announced at the Lifelong Learning festival launch on Saturday 3 September 2022. If you are unavailable on this day Council will contact you by email or phone shortly after.
